MOdARK
Software instrument for Mac and Windows
Prize winning composer Cristián Vogel's latest digital creation is not your conventional software instrument. It is an extraordinary and unique approach to instrument-as-world-building. Built around a stunning 3D performance interface and an equally compelling physical modelling sound core.
MODARK is a new kind of digital instrument for composers, sound designers and sonic explorers. It invites you to enter a resonant 3D world where sound is not only triggered or edited, but inhabited, shaped and performed.
At its centre is a modal physical-modelling engine: a living body of frequencies, decays, resonances and gestures. You can import or analyse source material, build impossible instruments from spectral fingerprints, excite them with strikes, bows and samples, and explore the results through a visual interface that feels closer to navigating a sonic sculpture than operating a conventional soft synth.
Under the Hood
MOdARK combines modal analysis, heterodyne resynthesis, physical modelling and real-time performance control. Audio can become a bank of resonant modes, each with frequency, amplitude, decay, phase and confidence data. These modes form the instrument’s body.
The sound core responds to different exciters, bowing gestures, modal tuning, spectral shaping, spatialisation, distortion, echo, wavetable amplitude modulation and expressive MIDI/MPE output. The result can move from precise analysed timbres to unstable metallic organisms, bowed clouds, broken acoustic simulations, harmonic fields and imaginary instruments that have no physical counterpart.
Instrument as World-Building
The 3D interface is not cosmetic. It is the place where the instrument is lived. Modal points, stems, banks, gestures and visual forms become a terrain for performance. Presets can hold not only sound settings, but visual state and world configuration.
MODARK is for artists who want an instrument with depth, resistance and mystery: a tool for composing resonant spaces, designing unheard materials and discovering new relationships between touch, image and sound.
